Bas Heijne

De werkelijkheid (‘the reality’)
Prometheus publisher

Heijne investigates what makes us human in a world that seems to become more and more inpersonal.
For the cover I turned the picture up side down, so that the reflection of the reality is on top (or is this also the reality?).
For the republication of the book I used a picture of the Eiffel tower, but it’s the one in Las Vegas (or is a copy of reality also reality?).

Bas Heijne

Hollandse toestanden (‘Dutch situations’)
Prometheus publisher

Heijne takes an unscrupulous look at a nation that is desperate searching for morality.

Sjoerd de Jong

Spijtwraak (A non existing dutch word that means something like ‘revenge regret’).
Prometheus publisher

Since a couple of years there’s a new cultural revolution in the Netherlands. Old opinions are replaced by new ones. Being politically correct and the multicultural society are renounced.
I translated this by tearing up the map of the Netherlands and paste it back together again with tape, like what you do with a picture of a lover after a fight then make up again.

Kinbote

Literature magazine
Prometheus publisher

Kinbote is the main character in the novel ‘Pale fire’ (1962) of Vladimir Nabokov, in which foot-notes play a very important part.
The design of Kinbote is based on footnotes; every footnote refers to another footnote, etc.
